Export UTM and referring site columns

Exportify exports where each customer came from as columns in the template editor’s Marketing category on every plan: Referring Site, Landing Site and the UTM columns describe the customer’s first visit since their previous order, within 30 days, and the Last Visit columns describe their last visit before the order; a column is blank when Shopify recorded no online visit or the link had no such UTM tag.

Exportify can show where each customer came from before they ordered: the site that sent them, the page they landed on, and the UTM tags on the link they followed. Add the columns yourself in the template editor, on every plan.

In the template editor, open the Marketing category:

ColumnWhat it holds
Referring SiteThe address of the site that sent the customer to your store
Landing SiteThe first page they opened on your store, without its query string
UTM Source, UTM Medium, UTM Campaign, UTM Term, UTM ContentThe UTM tags on the link they arrived from
Last Visit Referring Site, Last Visit Landing Site, Last Visit UTM columnsThe same details for their last visit before ordering

Shopify records each customer’s visits to your store before an order.

  • Referring Site, Landing Site and the UTM columns describe the customer’s first visit since their previous order, within the 30 days before this one. Use them to see what first brought the customer back.
  • The Last Visit columns describe the last visit before the order. Use them to see what finally led to the order.

When a customer came once and ordered straight away, both sets match.

  • No visit was recorded. Orders created in the Shopify admin or at a point of sale have no online visit.
  • The link had no UTM tag of that kind. A link tagged only with utm_source fills UTM Source and leaves the other UTM columns blank.
  • The referrer was your own store. A page on your own site, such as a product or thank-you page, is not counted as a referring site.

These columns follow the visits Shopify records for each order. If you compare a new file with one exported a while ago, a few orders can show a different referring site or UTM value, or a value where the older file had none.

If your reports depend on these values and something looks wrong, email support@exportifyapp.com with the order number and the template name.
